Based between New Zealand and the UK, I have been fortunate enough to spend the last 20 years shooting stills on movies both big and small, helping filmmakers represent their stories in images that hopefully intrigue and inspire people to go see the film.
Telling stories in images is something I’ve been doing my whole career. I started out shooting reportage and portraiture for magazines and charities, from taking pictures of Prime Ministers to covering stories on child labour in South America, maternal health in Tanzania, or the aftermath of genocide in East Timor.
All of which lent itself very well to shooting on a film set, where you need to work in harmony with the cast and crew whilst still creating the best images possible, sometimes in interesting conditions. Whether it be river gorges, muddy hillsides or humid jungles, or in stunning stately homes, dusty barns or boring offices, there are always great images to be found, even in smallest moments.
I’ve been a member of the Society of Motion Picture Stills Photographers since 2019, an invite-only organisation that accepts the top unit stills photographers from around the world, and is dedicated to the art of motion picture still photography.
It’s a privilege to work in such a dynamic industry. Needless to say, I love my job!
